A Florida woman faces felony charges after police allege she attempted to steal almost $240,000 from a local woman's bank account.

Santa Fe police arrested Monika Hope Wellmann, 47, of Lake Worth, Fla., on Wednesday afternoon at Washington Federal Bank on St. Michael's Drive, according to court documents. Wellmann is accused of using a Santa Fe woman's military identification card to attempt to transfer $239,500 from her home equity loan into a Chase Bank account.°®¶¹app

Staff at the bank first notified the police around 1 p.m. when Wellmann first attempted the transfer and "they knew she was being fraudulent," an officer wrote in an affidavit. A bank teller told Wellmann the bank's system was down, the affidavit says, then texted the police officer about an hour and a half later when she returned to attempt the transfer again.
